On 26 September 2024, Solarlink Energy Sdn Bhd hosted its first ever seminar titled “Cracking the Code for Sustainability and Energy Transition”. The seminar was held at the ornate Ecoworld Sales Gallery at Eco Business Park 1, Johor Bahru. This was an invitation-only event for the numerous businesses at Eco Business Park and Setia Business Park in Johor Bahru, as well as for our existing and potential clients who wanted to learn more about solar and energy transition in general.
The purpose of the seminar was to go in-depth into the motivations (the “why”) behind the world’s push towards sustainability, while also sharing practical ways (the “how”) that companies, especially SMEs, can easily adopt to both smoothen and hasten their energy transition journey.
We were privileged to have Ms. Bavani Munusamy, Head of Participant Engagement for the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) Malaysia & Brunei, kicking off our seminar with her talk on “ESG and Sustainability: From Vision to Action”. The United Nation’s 17 Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs) underscore the “Why” behind a lot of what the world is doing in relation to sustainability. Ms. Bavani effectively put across the urgency behind the achievement of these goals. She also shared about the rich resources that are freely available on the UNGC website for companies to upskill themselves and their workforce on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG). It was both an informative session, as well as a real call to action for everyone present.
Following which, our CEO & General Counsel, Mr. Victor Chang, provided everyone with an introduction about Solarlink Energy. He shared our mission, vision and values, as well as what differentiates us from other solar EPCCs as a truly end-to-end solar PV service provider.
He then commenced his talk entitled “Solar PV Systems – How you can save money and save the world at the same time” reiterating the urgent and pressing need for green energy transition, for which solar provides a quick and effective means for doing so. We all then learnt about the costs and benefits of solar PV systems as well as the myriad ways in which the government has been encouraging Malaysians to go green through solar.
Finally, Ms Alexis Chia, Chairperson of the Malaysian Green Building Council (Southern Chapter) (MGBC), concluded our seminar by sharing about “MGBC’s role in Sustainability”. MGBC’s role is significant given that buildings (and businesses within them) are the largest contributors of greenhouse gases. It was a good reminder that renewable energy is only one aspect of sustainability and that there was a lot more that companies could do to be truly sustainable, such as rainwater harvesting and compost recycling. Carbon scoring was also a useful resource for companies to track their progress in reducing emissions. Additionally, companies could benefit from generous tax incentives if they choose to undertake the process of getting their offices certified as green buildings.
After a photo-taking session, all participants and speakers adjourned for a sumptuous lunch at the foyer of the Ecoworld Sales Gallery. We all enjoyed a time of networking and lively conversations over food, which capped off an enriching and successful seminar. Special thanks to all our speakers, as well as to Ecoworld for sponsoring such an excellent event venue. We look forward to our next seminar in 2025, which promises to be even bigger and better!
